Wisconsin
Terrorism Awareness and Prevention
Introduction

The WisTAP Program is provided free to the general public. Funding is provided by the Wisconsin Crime Prevention Practitioners Association (WCPPA) as a result of a grant received from the Office of Justice Assistance. Technical and program assistance is provided by Fox Valley Technical College.

Since September 11, 2001, numerous requests have been received for a crime prevention program that focuses on terrorism awareness and prevention. In response to the requests, the Wisconsin Terrorism Awareness and Prevention (WisTAP) program was developed. Objectives of the program are to:

  • help citizens understand terrorism's threat to our society
  • explain the public's role in protecting our communities from terrorism
  • outline commonsense measures that citizens can employ to secure their communities.

WisTAP will increase terrorism awareness through citizen education and support. Participants will be encouraged to become active members in their community; to discourage, and prevent terrorism as well as detect potential terroris incidents.

The program is designed to educate and empower citizens. Participants will be given an introduction to terrorism consisting of the following topics:

  • defining terrorism
  • why terrorists operate
  • description of threat
  • what to look for in community safety
  • process to report suspicious activities

In, addition, the WisTAP program will offer:

  • overall Wisconsin terrorism threat summary
  • an overview of how reported information is managed

The WisTAP program is delivered by trained instructors representing communities throughout Wisconsin. It can be scheduled at any location throughout the state of Wisconsin.
